BAA SUSPEND ALL ACTIVITIES POST COVID 19

Botswana Athletics Association is currently engaging with relevant authorities in issues relating to hosting Athletics Activities/Competitions according to a press statement released earlier today.  The Association intends to take all the necessary steps cautiously to ensure that it move forward without going back and forth, which has been the case with the current National Health situation regarding Covid 19 Regulations.
Athletics was one of the sporting codes which Honourable Minister Tumiso Rakgare greenlit to return to active competitions after the first lockdown. Despite this decision by the Ministry, the association has since decided to halt all Botswana Athletics  Events/Competitions and races will be put on hold until further notice.
The BAA calendar of events was due to start earlier this month but Track and Field Events which were scheduled for 08th and 22nd August in Gaborone were postponed. This decision was made following the Government’s (Covid-19 Task Force) decision to effect a two (2) weeks Lock Down in Greater Gaborone Zone due to the exposure of the virus in the zone during that time.
As the qualifying door for Tokyo 2021 Olympics is still open, local athletes stood a chance to qualify for the world’s biggest sporting event but all now hangs in a balance following the decision by the association to suspend local competitions.
