The senior national team coach Major David Bright, is enthusiastic that Onkabetse Makgantai will soon get offers from Premier Soccer League teams in South Africa.

Makgantai has been an influential member of Bright’s team in the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) games which are currently taking place in Polokwane, South Africa. He scored the Zebras winning goal in their first game against Angola which they won 2-1 before he bagged a brace and man of the match award in their 6-0 win against Mauritius, played last week on Friday.

He went to prove that he is an excellent goal poacher, netting an equalizer and his fourth goal of the tournament in an quarter final clash against Zimbabwe. The Zebras lost the encounter 3-1 after kicks from the penalty spot to decide the winner after the stalemate at full time. Makgantai was nevertheless named man of the match for the second time in a row.

“I think everybody is happy with his performance in the tournament and he should continue playing like this, he will probably get an offer from any PSL team,” said Bright. “He has been excelling, this boy is back home from his club in DRC because as you know, our players lack mental strength to play in countries like DRC but I think South Africa is the right place for him to play.”

Makgantai is currently on loan to Orapa United from his club AS Vita (DRC). He was signed by AS Vita from Orapa United on a 2 year deal in August 2016.

Meanwhile, the Zebras loss to Zimbabwe in the quarter finals means that they will now play in the plate semifinals against Swaziland. The encounter is scheduled for Thursday and will kick off at 1930hrs.
