Selebi Phikwe Police station is investigating a case in which a 41 year old man allegedly raped his 12 year old biological daughter in Mmadinare village.
Station Commander, Superintendent Victor Nlebesi confirmed the shocking incident in an interview with Global Post. “I can confirm that we are investigating such an incident in which a father is accused of sexually assaulting his own daughter in Mmadinare. We were alerted by a whistle-blower who suspected that the man has been raping his daughter whom he was staying with,” Nlebesi explained.
According to Nlebesi the father and the mother of the child had an agreement that the little girl who is doing standard 6 in one of the local primary schools, should stay with him. The police chief noted that the child has since been taken by the mother after the incident. He added, “The suspect appeared before the Selebi Phikwe magistrate court and was denied bail as our investigations are still at an initial stage. The investigating team is yet to record statements from key witnesses and therefore feared that if the suspect was granted bail, he could interfere with their investigations.”
Nlebesi indicated that the court remanded the father in custody to give the investigating team ample time to wrap up their investigations adding that he is due to appear before court again for mention on July 5. He lamented that it is the first time in his policing area that he has recorded such an incident in which a father is accused of raping his biological daughter.
Meanwhile, Police in Letlhakane are investigating a case in which a 26 year old man committed suicide. Station Commander, Michael Maphephu explained that the deceased’s girlfriend had asked him to give her money. “The boyfriend agreed to give the girl some money. The girlfriend who is 21 years old, was accompanied by her 17 year old sister to collect the money as per the agreement between the two lovers,” Maphephu pointed out.
Upon arrival at the boyfriend’s house, Maphephu said the deceased hit the two sisters with a hammer inside his house. He noted that the girlfriend managed to escape and went to call the deceased’s mother for help while her younger sister remained unconscious inside the house. Maphephu noted that the deceased’s mother and the girlfriend came and found him hanging from the roof rafters of his room. He said that the 17 year old girl was treated and discharged the same day at the local primary hospital.
