The Director for Community Development in the Ministry of Local government, Steven Ludick has praised the collaboration between the his department in the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development and the Institute for Development Management(IDM) for spearheading an effective uplifting of local communities.
Ludick said this at an IDM breakfast meeting held Friday morning. Ludick, who is also the co-chairperson of the Joint Program with institution, highlighted the example of government’s Ipeleng program as one of the mainstays of programs of community upliftment.
Furthermore, Ludick said that that being the case there was a need for new ideas to be injected in enhancing community programs that are in sync with the fast developing modern world.
The Director of IDM in the country Dr. Onalenna Kgokgwe also noted the remarkable progress of the cooperation with the department since the inking of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between IDM, and the Department of Community Development 4 years ago.
Dr Kgokgwe stated that the impeccable progress realized thus far in the development of local communities has been the result of a concerted effort by all those involved. She further praised IDM stating that community development is embedded in its DNA as can be deduced from its curriculum that offers academic courses in the subject including both short and long term courses. She further highlighted the need to infuse the principles of community in students.
Meanwhile Ludick highlighted the equipping of Mantshwabisi Primary School with computers as one of the key successes of the Joint Partnership.
