Former South Africa national Under 20 coach Serame Letsoaka will begin duty as the new Botswana Football Association (BFA) Technical Director (TD) this week, sources have informed Global Sports.

Letsoaka replaces Matshidiso Kowa, whose one year contract expired at the end of last month (May). This publication previously revealed that the FA would not be renewing his contract as they preferred an experienced foreign candidate. Despite reports stating that former South Africa coach Philippe Troussier and former Zebras coach Peter Butler were among those interested in the job, the former Golden Arrows and Free State Stars gaffer emerged as the association’s favourite.

Sources this week told Global Sports that the new TD had arrived in the country to begin his new role. “He will begin his job this week. He arrived last week in the country and he seems ready to go,” a source told this publication. “He should by now be confirmed, but the association was waiting for his work permit. However, he received it last week and an announcement will be made soon.”

This publication also understands that the new TD received the keys to his new car and house (fully furnished) this past week, being the perks that make up part of his emoluments.

Reached for comment on Sunday afternoon, BFA mouthpiece Tumo Mpatane had this to say in the development at the mother body, “I cannot confirm nor deny.”

Letsoaka is not new to the TD role, having served at South Africa Football Association (SAFA) from 2010 until 2013. His deep knowledge in youth development is said to have been the trump card that drew the interest of the BFA and ultimately won him the job.
